- I start work at 8:00.Empiezo a trabajar a las 8:00. (un punto: la hora)
- We have a meeting on Monday.Tenemos reunión el lunes. (un día)
- My vacation is in December.Mis vacaciones son en diciembre. (un mes)
A2La regla: del punto al período
| Usa | Con | Ejemplos |
|---|---|---|
| at | la hora y los momentos exactos | at 9:00 · at noon · at night · at lunch |
| on | los días y las fechas | on Monday · on October 12 · on my birthday · on the weekend |
| in | meses, años, estaciones y partes del día | in October · in 2026 · in the summer · in the morning |
| in + tiempo | "dentro de", hacia el futuro | in ten minutes · in two weeks |
Si la fecha tiene día, usa on: in October, pero on October 12. El fin de semana va con on: on the weekend (en inglés británico, at the weekend). Y para decir "dentro de", usa in + tiempo: in ten minutes.
- Our flight leaves at 6:30.Nuestro vuelo sale a las 6:30.
- The conference is on March 5.La conferencia es el 5 de marzo.
- We opened the office in 2019.Abrimos la oficina en 2019.
- I'll be there in ten minutes.Llego en diez minutos. (dentro de diez minutos)
A3Partes del día: in the morning, pero at night
Las partes del día van con in the: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. La noche es la excepción: at night, sin the. Con at también van noon (mediodía) y midnight (medianoche). Si dices el día, usa on: on Friday morning.
- I answer emails in the morning.Respondo correos en la mañana.
- I don't check my phone at night. No reviso el celular en la noche.
- Let's talk on Friday morning.Hablemos el viernes en la mañana.
A4Sin preposición: next, last, this, every
Con next, last, this y every, la expresión va sola, sin preposición y sin the: next week, last year, this morning, every day. Igual con today, tomorrow, yesterday y tonight. Para algo que se repite, también puedes decir on Mondays: los lunes.
- See you next week.Nos vemos la próxima semana.
- We moved to Medellín last year.Nos mudamos a Medellín el año pasado.
- I go to the gym every morning.Voy al gimnasio todas las mañanas. (sin in)

Cuatro frases donde el español funciona distinto.
A6Cómo suenan in, on y at
En la frase, at suena débil: /ət/. Antes de consonante, la t casi no se oye: at nine /ət naɪn/. Antes de vocal, la t se une a la palabra siguiente y suena suave, como la r de "pero": at eight suena /əˈɾeɪt/. on suena /ɑn/, con una o muy abierta, casi "an". in lleva una i corta y relajada: in the morning /ɪn ðə ˈmɔːrnɪŋ/.
- See you on Monday at eight in the morning.Escucha: on abierto, in the morning de corrido y at eight con una t suave.

Si lo dices solo o con énfasis, at suena completo: /æt/. La n de in y de on también se une a la vocal siguiente: in April suena /ɪˈneɪprəl/. En inglés británico, on suena /ɒn/.
